SoapCalc

SoapCalc makes it easy to play "what if" with your recipe, helping you to craft and formulate your recipe. You may enter your recipe by weight or percent.
  • If you need to convert from weight to percent, use SoapCalc 9 WP.  You can enter recipies by either weight OR percent.

  • If your recipe will contain 9 or less oils, and you want to enter your recipe by percent, use SoapCalc 9.

  • For recipes with up to 18 oils, use SoapCalc 18

  • Sort oils by SAP, iodine value, INS or fatty acid content.
Important Note: If you are new to making soap at home, it is highly recommended that you read up on the subject first.  Two good books are Essentially Soap and Soapmaker's Companion.  You can find links to these books on this site. Also, there is a wealth of free soapmaking information at the links below.
There are two basic methods of making your own soap:
    Cold Process
  • Easier to pour into molds.
  • Quicker to make.
  • Longer to cure (2-4 weeks).
    Hot Process
  • Harder to pour into molds.
  • A bit longer to make.
  • Shorter to cure (0-3 days)
There are several variations on each basic method.  These links contain much more information.  The Yahoo groups listed are a good place to get your questions answered and meet other soapers.

Lost emails: I had discovered, and then lost, several emails due to a problem with my PC (Personal Confuser ?). If you sent an email to me in the May-July 2007 timeframe and did not get an answer, I apologize. I try to answer all valid emails as soon as possble.

There have been two complaints in the last few months of SoapCalc not working properly. In each case I tested the pages and they were working fine. Sometimes when I make an update, the browser holds on to an older file instead of loading all new files when you request a page - in spite of the fact that each SoapCalc page has several instructions for the browser not to do this. This can cause the calculator to malfunction. Unfortunately these instructions do not always work due to some browser anomalies. The only cure is to clear the browser's cache (not cookies or any history - just cache/files) and reload the page.
